flowers and butterflies
This second semester, we had a chance to make 3D flowers and butterflies by a single image which we have found in the internet. First, we used the plane to make the petals of the flower, and included the image of the texture, to give a realistic figure. Also with the leaves, we had used the UV image in order to show the realistic texture. The stem is a separate cylinder, and in edit mode, I was able to give the bending texture to the flower stem. The most difficult part making the flower is where we had to give a 3D texture to the petals both the leaves; therefore, we had to go to different orthographic mode to make it like a solid material. What I enjoyed making these planes was the realistic look of the figure. However, I was afraid of using too much lines and planes in the figure, so I tried to use the minimum amount of lines--which lead to look less "realistic" but a paper craft. I suppose I should try using more lines and planes, despite the speed of rendering the image.
After making several kinds of flowers, I've made two kinds of butterflies, which both contained similar characteristics. By adding the texture as the same way above, it seemed to be realistic enough. I believe attaching the bone in the butterfly was the real move that allowed it to look more natural. Before rendering the image, I played around the bones of the butterflies as if it looked realistic enough. I would like to add in a material in the world next time, so it would look less awkward than the image below. I am still very satisfied and happy of the fact that I was able to make the final product that I currently have.
